Behind the Movement.

So what is it that makes being human so special ?? The fact that we can wonder and pursue the answer to this question is a part of being human that seems unique to us as a species. The mindset to follow a curious thought is one that can accomplish beautiful things, building the tallest skyscrapers, flying to the moon, creating the internet …… sometimes I find myself in awe of the shit we have accomplished as a collective. Unfortunately, this mindset to follow a curious thought isn’t something you come across enough in today’s “fitness” markets. Society programs us to play follow the six pack.

Not that there is anything wrong with a six pack, quads on quads or that J-lo ass but the sedate way we pursue these physical attributes has detached us from being human. Countless reps, counting calories, staying in your comfort zone, all wrapped up in a social media status update that I’m pretty sure no one reads twice.

The human body has a range of movement that is unmatched by anything else we have on this beautiful world of ours. The Jack of all trades, the master of non perfectly describes us from a physical perspective but as technology moves forwards Jack seems to be tumbling down the hill dragging Jill down with him as they struggle to hold a pail of water ( I have some great movements on balls that would help them both ).

In a time of relative security, our need to be physically competent has been replaced by our insecure need to be visually competent. Encouraged to get into shape” for the summer and looking your “best for the big day” keeps us packing out gyms, buying the latest running shoe and hash tagging every damn day but have we become disengaged from the why ?!

Motion is a symphony, conducted by the mind and played out as a movement by the body.

The closer the orchestra plays to its potential, the better the conductor must become in order to control the movement. Progressing your range of motion has incomparably diverse benefits when it comes to your health as it detaches from superficial want. The mind and body develop harmoniously rather than egotistically, energy flows with fluidity, progress measured emotionally rather than inanimately and you begin to understand physical sovereignty.

I could rattle on all afternoon but in a nutshell, cartwheels with your child on a sandy beach has an energy ripple you can not measure. Priceless.

From a human perspective your ability to move has a direct link to your quality life but in an age of bright lights and shiny toys, this correlation becomes less transparent until its too late. Huffing and puffing and shitting your pants halfway up the stairs in your later years while all those shiny toys gather dust is a life lesson I’m hoping to skip. Here at humanifique we say move more now, and avoid as much pantie shitting episodes as possible.

One of the beautiful things about movement is that you have already started your journey. Learn from others but compare yourself to yourself yesterday because its the only comparison that truly matters. Learn to be explosive, learn to be still, learn to move together, learn to move without frills but most importantly learn to move with a curious will.

Be More.

Hi I'm Tesh affectionately known as Teshie and less frequently as that little c#unt , after years of passionately obsessing about movement and health I thought I should blog a little . Apparently one can not be truly wise on a topic unless he/she has shared themselves. So this is me sharing a little.
